Daisy Pratt started this petition to Bournemouth University and

Students were enticed back to Uni this Autumn - for many to a brand-new city, alone - with no direction but the promise of a phased introduction of face to face lectures and a full student support system.

Why? The profit from extortionate rent and tuition fees has shadowed student/ staff safety and mental health since day one.

The first term ended with no sign of improvement in

the quality of online lectures, no plan for a safe transition to campus university and no hope of

our commitments and investments being justified.

       The student situation is deteriorating.

And worse still, young people are being held responsible for the escalation of Covid; pushed into dense, lonely

conditions, to complete a course that would be equally uninspiring

anywhere in the world. Our government is incapable, and our universities are run as businesses. The

Covid crisis has shed light on the disgraceful way staff and students are utilised in the education industry, regardless of lives, deaths and lack of care that has pushed too many young people to suicide. Profit remains priority.

WE DEMAND:

·      Proper testing, readily available for all students and staff.

·      A safe campus without depleting the amenities of a proper learning environment.

·      Minimum 50% tuition fee reduction for the first, second and future terms.

·      A pause on rent for all those in student accommodation until the covid crisis is solved.

·      No rent to be paid by any students while they are not living in their accommodation
