Free Westbourne's car park to allow independent businesses to survive!

Have you had enough of the hassle of finding a car parking space during your shopping trip to Westbourne? Are you tired of driving around and around in circles in the area when all you wanted was just to grab a quick cup of coffee at the heart of Westbourne? Had enough of parking your car miles away and having to walk all the way back carrying your shopping bags? We need you and your signature to solve this problem once and for all!

Freeing up the main car park in Milburn road,  that was built using public funds, solely to service the shops and businesses of Westbourne. Not the national corporations that have set up their head offices in the area, grown substantially over the years (which is a good thing) but however, have failed to provide adequate parking facilities for their ever growing number of employees.

Over the years we have constantly been asking the council to address the problem, by changing half of the long stay car parking spaces, to short stay in Milburn Road car park. While this well known issue has been recognised by the council, the scheme to introduce only 40 short stay spaces at this car park is clearly inadequate and has made hardly any difference. Forty is not enough, we need at least one hundred spaces to service the three hundred and twenty four businesses in the area!  Also there is no clear signage indicating these parking spaces are available, visible from Milburn Road, and most of the visitors to the area wouldn't even know they existed. We need at least a hundred short term car parking spaces located at the front of the Milburn road car park, with sufficient signage clearly visible as you drive around looking for a place to park.

Have you ever noticed that so many shops come and go in Westbourne in a short period of time? There are over 200 independent businesses in Westbourne, and the dire car parking situation is slowly killing your favourite businesses! Please sign the petition and share it to let others  know that we need to support the local  businesses in Westbourne by sorting out the car parking problem in the area!

''If the additional parking spaces for local shoppers is not forth coming, we run a real risk of Westbourne just becoming another cloned high st, full of the same old multiple retailers like hundreds of other streets around the country.''

 Sincerely, Mr Justin Brandon
