Christopher Lawyer is believed to be the first rapist in Boulder County to be labeled as a "sexually violent predator." That means he not only is convicted of violent sexual offenses, but is at a high risk to re-offend.
In 2000, he forced his way into a home on the University Hill and attempted to rape a woman. He injured her but she escaped. The very next day, he committed his convicted sexually violent offense right here in Boulder, when he kidnapped a woman delivering newspapers at the Gold Run apartments, taped her eyes and mouth shut, drove to another location, brutally raped her at gunpoint for over an hour, and attempted to make casual conversation afterward.
He was sentenced to 12 years to life, and was released September of 2016 on parole. He had been living with his mother just outside of Boulder. He was sent back to prison in December for 180 days because he had already violated parole rules.
Christopher Lawyer is set to move to the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless on 4869 Broadway VERY soon. This rapist's residency isn't due to be discussed with the public until after he is already here.
Jamestown, CO rejected him. Longmont, CO rejected him. And we certainly do not want him back in Boulder, CO.
Our city is made up of an enormous amount of pedestrians, people who use public transportation, students, and families with children. They all will be vulnerable to Christopher Lawyer. Bringing him back to the place he first offended when he is not rehabilitated is irresponsible and puts the people's safety at high risk.
Please consider the safety and wellbeing of all the pedestrians, public transportation users, students, women, children, and teenagers in this community-- as well as the perilous consequences and recklessness that will ensue if Christopher Lawyer is placed back in the city of Boulder.
