Employees of the Department of Tertiary Education Financing are very rude. They service us poorly, unprofessionally and very slowly. Lots of students go home having received no service at all. The students' allowances are often very delayed and noone is being held accountable for moneys that don't come. The only time they are polite is when one brings their guardian. Employees need to be held accountable for their actions, and monitored to ensure they do their job ka bonokopila le botswapelo because prospective students are very discouraged. Hindering the purpose of the government scholarship program. The desperacy we are put in is uncalled for and the money and time we spend waiting and going back & forth is precious to us. University of Botswana SRC students were arrested for protesting the delay in allowance payments. Incidents have occurred when;

a student was told "You failed. We only help those who pass. You dance to our tune not the other way around." Very loudly in front of other students. All she asked was if she could pay to rewrite the modules she failed.

Myself I was called to come and get my sponsorship letter. The queue was long and yet there was noone in the office I was referred to. The unnamed DTEF employee came after 3pm and I had to protest and even call my father, I was only serviced after he(father) showed up. In the time i spent waiting in his office i heard countless employees declaring they will be late the next day. This was the 4th time I came to check my sponsorship letter. The 1st and 2nd times i came i was told to wait for an sms that never arrived. The 3rd time I came I was standing in a queue when the employee at the counter said "I'm knocking off at 3:30pm." Making inquiries is an extreme sport at DTEF because they all refer us to other employees and are very rude with the answers.

Currently speaking the allowances of many students have been delayed for more than months and noone is even giving us answers.

Some students come in at 6am and some leave after 8pm without having received full and proper service. Often told to come the next day or not attended to at all. DTEF employees hardly listen to students before dismissing them. This is very alarming because classes have commenced for some students and they cannot register at their respective universities/ colleges. Also considering some are travelling from far away places.

These are only a few of the terrible scenarios we face at the Department of Tertiary education and financing.
