While age of consent for marriage and age allowed to vote is 18 (previously 16) and 16 respectively, the age of sconsent for medical procedures in Botswana is 21. This limit bring complexities in the following scenarios
1. Married couple under age 21 cannot consent for their children to undergo a medical procedure. In this case the grandparents come to the rescue
2. A university of Botswana student who comes from afar requiring an elective procedure would need to bring a guardian/parent to consent for them. This can be difficult if parents are financially challenged or caught up with work
