A V started this petition to Boston University

Boston University continuously tells its students to reach out when they need help, yet when they do reach out it often feels as though there is nobody to turn to. When it comes to mental health assistance at BU, it is much easier for students to get a consultation than it is to see a professional and talk through their situation. This is unacceptable.

The International Accreditation of Counseling Sevices recommends a minimum ratio of one full-time professional staff member to every 1,000 to 1,500 students. This would require Boston University to have between 24-35 staff members for its student population of nearly 35,500. Currently, BU falls on the low end of this spectrum.

Instead of simply offering access to mindfulness apps and sending out emails touching on wellbeing, both of which serve as bandaids to the overall issue at hand, the university needs to expand its behavioral medicine department to better accommodate the large student body.
