We believe that to improve school bus system, we need to put some outside pressure on BPS Transportation. We have all called the Transportation Hotline to complain, but it has not changed anything. This is not an issue just for charter schools; it is a Boston-wide issue

We have seen poor communication between BPS Transportation and parents. We received one letter about our bus stops for the first day of school, 8/27. Then, a week later, on a Tuesday Sept. 3rd, after a long weekend, BPS ran a new bus route system with different bus numbers and bus stops. Parents were not notified in time of these changes! There was no mail or email communication to parents!

This led to complete chaos as parents struggled to get kids to school in the morning. At our school alone, BPS Transportation reduced our afternoon buses from 10 to 7 either by changing bus stops or making 6th grade parents re-apply for their waiver exemption they had already received. In the afternoon, many parents reported they did not see their bus or their kids at the stops. Meanwhile, some children were dropped off at unfamiliar bus stops long way from home. In addition, BPS GPS tracking system did not work for parents because BPS Transportation failed to notify us that our child/children's Student IDs have been changed this year. Many parents reported that they were unable to speak to anyone when they called the BPS Transportation Hotline to try to locate their children in the evening
