Mayor's Youth Council Public Health Committee started this petition to Boston City Council

We would like to introduce ourselves as the Public Health Committee on the Boston Mayor’s Youth Council. Our role is to promote and advocate for a safe and healthy environment for the youth of Boston.

This year we have decided to focus on the lack of menstrual products in school and public bathrooms. We are hoping to expand upon the Pilot Program that was recently endorsed and funded by the City of Boston, through which funds were allocated towards the purchase of menstrual products for school nurses in Boston Public Schools.

Though the Pilot Program is a great start for our initiative, we hope to augment the resources given to people who are in need of free products. This would entail the distribution of menstrual products in public bathrooms, through the placement of modern and upgraded dispensers.

We are reaching out to you to ask for your support in the Period Products initiative.

Our goal is to reduce socioeconomic disparities for women through this project. No woman or girl should have to choose between a meal and staying clean every month. Staying sanitary each month should not be a privilege but a right provided by the government.

By signing this position you will help us take the next step in women equity.
