Stratford - "A clean community" with trash on our streets.

My wife and I moved to Stratford earlier this year, and since then there have been several notifications regarding the trash collection policies here. The most recent change prevents us from using the trash cans that the majority of us already own as we're no longer allowed to place any cans larger than 32 gallons at the curb. Tonight, while I was pulling the trash bags out of the large trash cans I had to deal with loose trash from broken bags, and a large amount of maggots. The smell spread at least half a block down. I'm sure the rest of the community has had or will have similar issues.

Putting personal incidents aside, we've seen a consistent stream of complaints about the new trash regulations on the Stratford Facebook page. The new rules have proven to be massively inconvenient at best, and a health and safety issue at worst - let alone the appearance of our neighborhoods with trash bags (instead of tidy trash cans) lining the streets every week is not a good one.

We'd like to propose that Stratford provides a better solution to our trash problem.

Acceptable solutions include:

  1. Lifting the new policies that have been implemented over the last several months, and return to a normal trash collection process. This would mean allowing us to leave our trash bags in whatever size trash cans that we currently own. It would also mean that the trash cans would be totally emptied of bags, and loose trash.
  2. Alternatively, if a return to normal trash collection is not possible with our current provider we would like to cancel that aforementioned agreement, and switch to a provider that can provide the typical trash collection procedures that all of our neighboring towns enjoy.

We assert that these solutions are both reasonable and obtainable, and anything less would be unacceptable.
