The selling off of Borough Hall with the profits going to the local tax payer
It is clearly no longer essential for administrators to occupy an office. Administration can be done on a smartphone from any location. We also have a shortage of homes in Bedfordshire as we do right across the country. If Borough Hall was sold to a private developer it could be converted into flats for those in Bedford needing homes in much the same way as the former Telecom House in St Johns Street. The council would make millions for the local taxpayer by selling Borough Hall, this could be used for projects all over Bedford to benefit its people and reduce council tax bills. In addition, Council staff would have the flexibility of working from home although their work would need to be audited on a regular basis; a role that could be created within the Council. For those unable to work from home a small Borough Hall shop could be created in the town centre on the former Debenhams site. This plan has numerous excellent benefits and I see no reason why it can't go ahead asap.
