Why this petition matters

BORN TO BE IN WILD
Wild animals belong in the wild. Forcing them to live in captivity is harassment. Zoos are one of the worst places for a wild animal to live. Wild animals are separated from their mothers as babies and both their mental and physical health deteriorate when being held captive.
Clearly, wild animals don’t belong here. Close down the zoo with proper preparations make sure that these animals to live out their lives in peace. It’s time to release all birds and animals into their natural habitat. Say NO to cage birds and pet animals in your home.
Over 200 zoos are in India. More than 56,800 animals, including exotic species, and endangered Indian ones, are kept in these zoos across the country
What You can do?
· Share the photos of animals that are suffering in zoo when you visit them. We will compile and send to ministry of animal welfare division
· The most impactful action which can be taken is if people stop patronising zoos, as this would cut their primary source of income, forcing them to shut down. There should also be more sanctuaries, where animals stay in their natural habitat and allow visitors to observe animals from a distance.
· Share this petition to all the animal right activists, to the government agencies, to the ministers, to the Prime Minister and to the President of India.
· Create awareness to the people who are keeping birds and animals in the cages as pets in their homes. Tell them, how these animals and birds are silently suffering.
The Indian SC has extended the meaning of Article 21 to include right to sleep, right to privacy, live in a decent environment and much more. The animals are also entitled to these rights, and keeping them in captivity is a clear violation of these rights. Therefore, unless we start raising these issues, the animals will continue being caged in zoos.
Rob Nixon, an environmental law scholar, coined the term ‘slow violence’, which means violence that occurs “gradually and out of sight in intimate spaces”. Let us not just be mute spectators and witness the slow deaths of these beautiful creatures.
