In 1995 instead of resigning John Major called a leadership election. He wanted people to back him and stop constantly undermining him OR pick someone better. He won decisively.

BORIS I'm not sure if you will ever read this but PLEASE PUT YOUR HAT IN THE RING! You will be re-elected as party leader and lead us to another landslide election victory.
