They has been a massive decline in our elderly loved ones living in care homes due to families not being able to visit. Although it is understood my many why families have not been able to visit care homes, would not take away the potential risk of COVID 19 as it was harrowing when it did enter the care homes. However we are loosing just as much residents to not seeing family as we did too COVID.

Most elderly residents have some sort of dementia at various stages, these residents do not understand why their loved ones are not able to come in their home to visit them. Some of the elderly think that their families have deserted them and angry that they are able to just leave them there, not go and visit. The most heart breaking is that elderly are blaming themselves that their families are not visiting. This is having a detrimental effect on their mental, physical health to the extreme of them stopping eating and drinking causing them to die.

Although every worker in the care homes from management, nurses, care assistants, kitchen and domestics are doing the upmost to keep morale up amongst the residents, to comfort them, it goes with out saying we care and love for them like their our own family. However it is not the same as their own family.

What we are wanting to change is to get the government, local councils to let one family member to be able to visit them in care homes. This family member to be able to visit in their relatives room adhering to social distancing, The family member to be tested weekly inline with the staff from the care homes. In doing so this will boost morale amongst the residents, further more this will give them a better quality of life and a fighting chance.

At the minute residents and families have not been able to see each other for 8 months now. They are both missing out on the precious little time they may have together. As it stands now family members(limited number) are only allowed to enter a care home when their elderly relative is on end of life. In most circumstances this is when the relative is in a coma like state with only hours to their last breaths. Imagine not being able to see your mum, Dad, Grandad or Grandma for eight months and the next time your going to see them is when their taking their last breaths!!!! This is unfair on our elderly generation who have fought for our future. It is time for us to fight for them and give them time with their loved ones for the rest of their days.
