The right to work from home

The right to work from home
Why this petition matters

As a full time personal trainer, it’s apparent to me that a large proportion of ill health is caused by stress.
Stress dramatically impacts obesity, mental health, and all related medical problems in a negative way. This is costly to people, communities, and the NHS
The daily commute is a great source of stress for the vast majority of people, and lockdown has proven it to be largely unnecessary for a considerable proportion of jobs.
In addition to reduced health through stress, people lose a great deal of time which could be spent with family, improving the mental heath of children, and taking pressure off relationships.
A great deal of damage to the environment is caused to the environment by unnecessary commuting.
The interplay between lost time with family, increased stress, and increased emissions, caused by unnecessary commuting is simply unacceptable.
I’ve received a great deal of statements from my clients, that they have more energy due to not commuting while working from home. They report that they’re exited to put this renewed energy into the exercise. However, a return to daily grind with long and unnecessary commuting, will see people return to not having time to cook healthy meals, not having the energy to train effectively, or relax with friends and family.
During lockdown, we have proven that working from home is possible to a vastly greater degree. The air is cleaner, people are happier, and healthier.
The strength of the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, and the combined impact of giving people back more time through working from home, on the environment, health, and productivity will be colossal.
All this can be achieved by passing one law:
I propose that people should have the right to work from home for 50 percent of of their working hours, unless the employer can prove that this is not possible.
