These have been extraordinary times with the global pandemic of Covid-19. As keyworkers, nurses and midwives have continued to provide excellent care in this challenging time (doctors and others too!).
It has been wonderful how the public have been so supportive and respectful of our profession. A profession that we enter in for more than just a job. Everyday we go above and beyond to care for those who need us. Financially, however, we are not well rewarded.
I feel that a pay rise in the current climate is unrealistic ( hopefully this will be looked at in detail in the future) but why not waiver our annual registration fee?

As nurses and midwives we have to pay £120 a year to be on the NMC register. We have to be registered in order to perform our jobs. We have to demonstrate that we are safe and up to date to protect the public.

So come on Boris ! Why not pay for each nurse and midwife’s annual registration fee?

Most of the general public have been furloughed ( funded by the government) surely you can show your gratitude for those who have cared for you by giving us a bonus of £120 each !
