As you will all know, children as young as 4 are weighed at school, along with having their height measured. This is then calculated with the BMI calculator. BMI is an extremely dated method, that only works if you fit certain criteria. Children’s height and weight is so transient, that their “BMI” is constantly changing. Childhood obesity is a problem, not just in the UK, but in a lot of countries. Perhaps, rather than using the outdated method of BMI, which doesn’t take into consideration many things, such as muscle mass or genetics, perhaps there could be a yearly check up at the GP instead, with parents/guardians present. Weight doesn’t necessarily mean fat, so rather than a generic measurement being used, each child should have  the right to be assessed individually.
