In 2020 due to the Covid 19 lockdown measures, it was not practicable or fair on Year 11 students to undertake formal exams. Instead their final grades were assessed based upon coursework and teacher assessments.

In 2021 year 11 students (currently year 10) will be expected to undertake their GCSE examinations as normal, despite missing out on over 3 months formal education due to the Covid 19 lockdown.

It is likely that 2020 year 10 students will not return to formal education 5 day per week until at least September 2020, meaning that half the school year has been home learning with minimal support and a lack of mock exams.

It seems unfair and unreasonable to teachers and students to insist that Year 11 students in 2021 shall have to undertake formal exams given these circumstances. Instead, a repeat of the process for 2020 GCSE exams should be carried out meaning that their final grades should be based upon coursework and teacher assessments.
