The UK government’s response to Covid-19 has so far been well thought out and put together with many people receiving tests and extensive contact tracing.

 However, one area that the response seems to be lacking is the government’s focus on universities. Universities are a perfect place for this virus that has the ability to cripple our healthcare system to spread with research showing that the average person infects 2-4 other people before they are treated. Another key factor about the virus is that it is almost symptomless in the first 2 weeks making the spread of this virus uncontrollable. Thousands of students in each university take public transport to get to and from campuses; Students sit in lecture theatres with upwards of a hundred other people and then return to their cramped accommodations. This makes universities one of the worst places for a virus to spread, especially COVID-19 as it is such a deadly form of coronavirus. I’m sure the government sees how this could be a major issue. We ask that the UK government temporarily shuts universities until the outbreak has fully been contained. Thank you.
