In 2019 MPs received a 2.7% pay increase this year, a 1.8% boost in 2018, 1.4% in 2017, 1.3% in 2016, and a “big hike” from £67,000 to £74,000 in July 2015.

In just five years MPs have seen their pay increase from £67,000 to approximately £82,000.

In 2010 the Conservative/ Liberal Democrat government froze pay for public sector workers such as doctors, nurses and teachers, before capping wage increases at 1% in 2013. A cap which remained in place until 2017.

It is reported that in 2018 9% of nurses in England and Wales had to rely upon food banks to provide free supplies because they did not have enough money to pay for their own food.

How can MPs accept a further pay increase when hard working public sector staff are unable to make ends meet?

We demand that MPs pass a law reversing their announced pay rise, and go one step further to freeze any further pay increases before the next General Election.
