As we have seen there has been almost a week of protesting in the USA following the death of George Floyd, a black man who died while pleading for air as a Minneapolis police officer pressed a knee into his neck for eight minutes and 2 other police officers held him down.

We are asking that you sign the petition to request that Boris Johnson suspends the export of British arms and riot gear to the United States at this time. Donald Trump himself has said he would send in the US military to suppress the demonstrations if local authorities did not use sufficient force.

The UK government's own rules states that such exports should not be exported where they are likely to be used for “internal repression”.

For years the UK and the USA have had a special relationship but this relationship should not prevent the British Government from doing what is right.  By supplying the American Government with riot gear we will be condoning using these arms against their own unarmed civilians, something the British people cannot condone.

Many of us feel helpless at this time to do anything to put an end to the pain and suffering these protestors are feeling, this petition is one way of showing up and letting them know they are not alone.
