UK started this petition to Boris Johnson (Prime Minister) and

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) announced on 20/03/2020 was hugely welcomed by many employers and employees alike. The scheme allows employers to furlough employees who would have otherwise been laid off or made redundant due to the unprecedented global pandemic Covid-19.

A furloughed staff could then get paid 80% (up to the value of £2,500) of their salary by the CJRS government fund.

The CJRS scheme states that employees who were on the payroll on 28/02/2020 are eligible for this CJRS fund and the government strongly encourages companies to adopt the scheme. The CJRS also states that employers can rehire and furlough employees who were laid off after 28/02/2020.

Many companies have done the right thing and embraced the CJRS, but unfortunately some companies are still refusing to furlough eligible staff and are still laying off employees without pay.

This is hugely disappointing and shows incredible lack of compassion from these companies, at a time when we should all be supporting each other.

We need the CJRS rules to be updated, to make it mandatory for companies to rehire employees that were laid off or made redundant due to Covid-19 and to furlough them. Otherwise thousands of employees are at risk of zero income, no job opportunities in this uncertain economy, mounting bills and emotional distress, despite being eligible for the CJRS fund.
