This petition is for the awarding of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal to all regular and reserve service personnel who were in service prior to the 1 August 2021.  

Over the last 5 years the Military have been critical in the success to multiple agencies by supporting tasks to local communities across the UK. Whether it be localised flooding, civil industry strike response, the COVID-19 pandemic or fuel shortages the Military have provided unwavering professionalism and without a whisper of complaint. With each of these events the military have provided; life saving rescues and implemented life saving prevention measures, property and industrial protection, installed defence measures to prevent further civil impact, logistical planning, support and supply, clean up support, provided life saving clinical support to the frontline, administered vaccines, provided helicopter and other air support and all whilst providing security to the country both from within the UK and whilst deployed protecting UK overseas interests.

Recent direction to only award the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Medal to Service Personnel that have completed more than 5years of service on the 6 Feb 22, will see those junior service personnel (both commissioned and non-commissioned officers) who have been heavily involved in tasks listed above not being recognised for their contribution to service during the most challenging periods the country have seen in decades. The governments plans to recognise the NHS for their efforts (albeit justified) for their work through the pandemic is disappointing to our service personnel who have worked alongside the NHS over the past 18+ months yet they are unlikely to receive the same additional recognition.  The awarding of the Queen's Jubilee Medal to all service personnel will allow all service personnel to be recognised for their support to the country whilst providing the additional incentive to continue military service knowing the country supports and recognises the work they do at home as well as overseas.
