It’s time for change. Carers, Senior Carers, deputy care managers, care managers. Our Job is difficult, we push ourselves to ensure that all the people we care for are receiving the highest quality of care. Why do we do this? Because we care!! But are we appreciated?? YES we are by family’s and friends of the residents. But this is not enough anymore, apparently being a carer is NOT a skilled Job? Yet there are many skills we deal with everyday that not everyone would be able to cope with. 

it has been estimated that in the UK alone there are 410,000 residents being cared for in residential and nursing homes, and with population increasing every year, this statistic is going to rise rapidly. Also due to the population living longer, care needs are changing and needs are becoming more complex. 

Being a carer is not a 9 til 5 job, it’s 24/7. We are short staffed and underpaid. If someone on the next shift ring in sick, we don’t just down tools and say ohh well; we stay and do that shift until cover is found. We go home knackered and too tired to be able to go out for that meal we were looking forward to with our own friends and family. Some days are that heartbreaking (especially through COVID) we go home and cry and overthink everything we could of done differently. Our minds never resting. 

This petition is to get all carers a higher pay salary/wage so all carers can receive a better quality of life. So they can treat themselves and their family’s when they have time off. So they get what they deserve for all the hard work and hours they put into there job! Minimum wage is not enough for the sacrifices they make daily for your mums/dads/Grandmas/Grandads/ Brothers/Sisters/Aunties/Uncles/Cousins/Friends/for the people you love. 

WE ARE NOT JUST CARERS, BUT WE ARE THESE PEOPLES FAMILY, WE ARE THE ONES WHO SEE THEM FIRST THING IN THE MORNING AND WISH THEM GOOD NIGHT ON AN EVENING, TUCK THEM INTO BED AND TELL THEM TO SLEEP TIGHT AND NOT TO LET THE BED BUGS BITE. 

Here are just some Duties we deal with on a daily basis, the list is endless….. 

Dealing with Personal Cares, making sure independence and dignity is promoted at all times. Sounds easy until you have a resident with late stages of Dementia and find it difficult to communicate there exact needs to you. You are explaining you need to wash their bottom, and they don’t understand, one carer is gently holding their frail hands and the other on their knees ensuring all areas of their body have been throughly washed and all creams applied. At this point the resident with dementia has had enough and with all there strength they push the carer in front out of the way and slaps and punches the carer who is on her knees. Both carers stay calm, they carry on with the task, comforting and reassuring the resident that everything is ok and it won’t take much longer. Walking away feeling satisfied the job has been done, tears in eyes are hard to hold in after feeling like you have just done a round in a boxing ring. This is just one ☝️ example of this, carers deal with challenging behaviour all through there shift and mange to stay calm and give reassurance, when really in side they just want to scream. 

 Carers are Doctors � ensuring if any resident is indeed of medical attention have the appropriate professional contacted. We deal with making sure residents have administered  the appropriate and correct medication. We administer Morphine and other controlled medication. 

Paper Work. We abide by all the policy and procedures that are in place from local and national authorities. (A list that is never ending) EVERYTHING IS DOCUMENTED, even you have to stay behind an hour extra UNPAID After a 12 hour shift to make sure you haven’t missed anything on your paperwork.

we create stimulating activities, cook meals to suit different dietary needs, ensure residents daily fluid intake has been hit, washing and drying, cleaning, creating person-centred care plans, with risk assessments to be able to keep all residents safe and decrease the risk of coming to any harm. 
CARE WORKERS HAVE A PERSONS LIFE IN THERE HANDS � , that’s a lot of responsibility!! 

ALL CARE STAFF ARE UNDER PAID AND ITS TIME TO CHANGE, PLEASE I BEG EVERYONE TO SIGN THIS PETITION TO HELP THE WORLD BE A  MORE COMPASSIONATE PLACE.

I AM FIGHTING FOR ALL CARE WORKERS, FROM CARERS TO MANAGERS IN CARE HOMES/NURSING/ RESIDENTIAL HOMES HOME CARE, FOR WAGES TO RISE TO WHAT THEY DESERVE. I AM FIGHTING TO ENCOURAGE MORE PEOPLE TO WANT A CARER IN CARE, BUT WHILE WE REMAIN ON LOW WAGE, WHO WANTS THE STRESS TO STILL ONLY JUST BE ABLE TO PAY OUR BILLS. 

COVID HAS PROVED TO US THAT EVEN THROUGH A WORLD PANDEMIC OUR JOB IS IMPORTANT, AND THEIR WILL ALWAYS BE A NEED FOR CARERS.
