Patient safety and healthcare
Why this petition matters
The government's decision of funding the National Health Service (NHS) by taking a large sum of taxpayers' money every year would be extremely beneficial, if only it was working however, it's not. UK taxpayers' money is supposed to improve public health not neglect them, so why is nothing being done?
The UK population is working countless hours every day just for the taxpayers' money to be used on healthcare services which ultimately is supposed to improve healthcare services not worsen or neglect public health. In 2019, 22.5% of all deaths in the UK were considered avoidable (136,146 deaths out of 604,707), additionally of the avoidable deaths in 2019, 64.2% could be attributed to conditions considered preventable (87,437.5 deaths) and 35.8% to treatable conditions (48,708.5 deaths) (Statistics UK, 2019) - the long-lasting solution to this problem is simpy a properly funded NHS with enough staff to deliver safe patient care NHS leaders say, and not raising taxpayers money, taxpayers have lives of their own and work extremely hard to keep their money and not waste it on services that don't even help.
Why has MP's pay increased by 2,200 (2.7%) this year when they already have an average salary of £84,144 while NHS professionals have only been increased 3% when nurses and etc are on an average of £25,000 - 30,000 all in 2022, even after a worldwide pandemic like coronavirus. Additionally, the public endure long waiting times at healthcare services, waiting hours on the phone to just get told to call 8 am tomorrow or being told to do an online E-consult instead of a sympathetic listening ear this is all negligence and a risk to the public health and patient safety, many believe the NHS is a ‘black hole’, swallowing large sums of taxpayers' money with no real result, the pressures on healthcare professionals is immense and results in not being able to perform to the best of their ability or improving public health, of course there will be a shortage of nurses if healthcare professionals (nurses, midwives, etc) are being treated like dog poo (excuse my language) healthcare practitioners who studied in the UK are going abroad to practice due to better treatment and better pay which results in better patient care and safety.
Healthcare professionals can't leave the hospital to protest when shifts are 8 - 13 hours long and breaks are unpaid, we can't keep living like this, public health needs to remain a priority for a better today, tomorrow and future (think of the kids).
