Debra Dellow started this petition to Boris Johnson (Prime Minister)

University students have been sent away from home, some for the first time, on the understanding they will receive an education via on line and face to face learning. Many have never received any face to face learning since starting in September. Many also contracted COVID and received no support. Universities say they are open but there is no pastoral care and no one to help these students at a time when they need it most. Many have not had the opportunity to make friends due to meeting restrictions, and now we are in full lockdown something needs to be done to help these students and their well being.

If schools are teaching in classes of 30 students then universities can still teach in small groups and hold small wellbeing groups, study areas and better pastoral care. Why is university teaching restrictions different to schools. Some courses only have 20-40 students on.

Support bubbles should be allowed, with fellow students on your chosen course, keeping to the Covid guidelines. Societies should continue in small groups or on line.

The students are not only trying to cope with these extreme conditions they are also being threatened with fines and on line disciplinaries, and the whole system is taking advantage of our children rather than helping them.

More support is needed urgently, to support the students well being and mental health.
