For many people around the country, skateboarding in skateparks is a fun and creative way to get exercise whilst remaining socially distanced and safe. Skateparks are large outdoor places with much room for social distancing.

Currently, skateparks up and down the country have been fenced off, leaving these open spaces empty and forcing many to get there exercise elsewhere. However, playgrounds and parks have remained open, which share major similarities with skateparks. There has been no reasoning given by the government as to why skateparks have been shut whilst these other two remain open.

Without skateparks being open, I worry that many skaters will cease to do exercise, which may have major impacts on their physical and mental health. I myself found skating a good creative outlet over the summer, as well as a way to keep myself physically healthy and entertained where other forms of exercise had failed.

This is why I'm calling on the Prime Minister to allow the reopening of outdoor skateparks throughout this lockdown period.
