On October 2nd 2021, at 11:45pm a fatal accident took place alongside the A2 dual carriageway resulting in the death of a young 22-year old man. This man was bright, kind, caring and a genuine person who contributed so positively to the world. Since 2015, there have been numerous complaints into the safety of cyclist and pedestrian access via this route, despite it being permitted. The roads being unlit, having no hard shoulder, no cycle lane, etc. make it very unsafe for those required to use it to get home. This has been an ongoing problem for years and the tragic loss of someones son/brother/friend could have been avoided if there was more consideration into the safety of all road users.

This petition aims to gauge the attention from the MP of Canterbury and other members of parliament to initiate changes into this unsafe route so that many other lives could be saved and other people will not face such an unfortunate loss in future. This work should have already been done a long time ago so that another great young adult didn't have to lose their life. Changes include: increasing the number of lights, potentially limiting access for certain road users/ making specialised routes for everyone to enhance their safety, implementing a hard shoulder so that there is space for cyclists and pedestrians to feel safer.
