I have started this petition as I believe staff working in food establishments should be required by law to wear correct facial PPE when around food. 

The Covid-19 crisis is not going away anytime soon and we have seen issues where Covid-19 has been spread in food establishments. For example, on the 5th of September it was reported that 6 staff members tested positive for Covid-19 within a KFC in Glasgow. In many places and restaurants I have been in, I find it rather alarming that staff handling food are not wearing any facial PPE; its almost the same as a postcode lottery on who gets covid-19. It should be MANDATORY. I am not saying it will stop the spread but I believe it would make it less likely in comparison to not wearing any facial PPE. 

Currently the governments stance is "It is not mandatory for workers in pubs, restaurants or takeaways to wear face coverings where they are not part of usual health and safety measures." The current government guidance does NOT go far enough to reassure the public that food institutions are entirely safe. 

Employees are going to talk, cough and sneeze at the workplace, that is inevitable. It only takes one person with Covid-19 to pass it on. Don't let that happen due to lack of facial PPE on employees handling food.

I would like the government to address this issue as a matter of urgency and make it mandatory for employees handling food in food establishments to be wearing correct facial PPE.
