Make it illegal to leave dogs in a vehicle unattended

Many people still believe it is ok to leave their dogs in a vehicle unattended even for a "short period". If a dog was to die from being left to overheat in a vehicle the owner could face prosecution for negligence which they get fined and sometimes have a short prison sentence. On average it takes 30 minutes for a car to overheat but experts have stated it could take as little as 6 minutes. After witnessing a dog who had been left in the car at a supermarket car park, I decided enough was enough and the law should be there to prevent deaths of dogs not a law to prosecute the owners once it's happened because it's too late. It is illegal to leave a child in a car if it is at risk and if the child was to die the responsible guardian would face possible chargers up to manslaughter by negligence. How is this different from a dog dying in a car? It is still an animals life that is taken yet it is not deemed as important enough to have a law in place to stop the deaths of dogs?
