Why this petition matters

Started by Eric osterholm

Captain Sir Tom Moore raised close to £40,000,000 for  NHS charities and died less than a year later aged 100. He was a national hero who was knighted by the queen on the 17th of July 2020 in recognition of his efforts.

I propose that the 17th of July should become known as Sir Tom Moore day and be a national holiday. The holiday should be used to hold charity fund raising events and to honour members of our wonderful national health service.

I choose the 17th of July because it was the day he was knighted and believe that his birthday and the date of his death belong to his family. It is also in a summer month perfect for holidays and fund raisers.

All to often great people of this nation do not receive the full recognition that they deserve.

Sir Tom’s efforts would become an enduring legacy for the nation.
