Alex Redfern started this petition to Boris Johnson (Prime Minister) and

Over the years leading up to the change in fuel quality, fuel prices for conventional vehicles such as cars, vans and lorries has been spiralling upwards at an alarming rate.

with the “new” ethanol based fuel E10 being used as the standard grade many drivers in the UK will be hit by higher petrol costs due to their older cars not being compatible with E10, as their only option would be the now, more expensive E5.

As an older vehicle owner I have noticed this significant price difference between the normal and premium fuels a lot more since the changeover to E10, and as with many others in the country. I cannot financially justify replacing my car for one that will run on E10 without risking damage to the fuel system of my car.

the government and fuel companies have both admitted that the new more environmentally friendly fuel could be damaging to some older cars. Which in the long run means more and more perfectly serviceable vehicles are going to be forced off the road including some modern classic cars that preserve our heritage.

the steep difference in price between the standard fuel and the premium which most cars manufactured before 2010 will have to run on from 1st September as E10 becomes the new “standard” is alarming to say the least and many households in the UK cannot financially cope with the increase in fuel price.

This proposition is aiming to bring down the extortionate costs of petrol to a more affordable level, for the hundreds of thousands of people in the uk that own older petrol cars that are incompatible with the new E10 fuel.

the average UK price per litre of petrol at the writing of this petition stands at

(E10)standard fuel:135.37ppl

(E5)premium fuel:147.49ppl

That’s a 12.12ppl difference that the people with older cars who cannot afford the upgrade have to foot the bill for!

that would mean an increase of £6.66 per full tank of fuel based on a 55 litre tank.

this is the average price per tank based on a 55 litre tank.

E5 standard : £74.45

E10 premium : £81.11

As a motorist these figures cast a bleak view for anybody who cannot renew their vehicle in a financially viable manner such as myself, I believe for once the general public  should be given a financial break from ever rising costs of living. I call on the powers that be to vote on a reduction of the price gap between standard and premium fuels as to make allowance for the hundreds of thousands of motorists who cannot afford to run their vehicles on more expensive fuel without risking damage to their own car. Thank you
