Boris Johnson has announced a “cross-governmental commission” into racial disparities in education, health and criminal justice. It is the latest of a series of reports into ethnic injustices over recent years. But before starting yet another inquiry, why does his government not implement the recommendations from other inquiries into racial inequality such as, the Lammy Review 2017,  Angiolini Report 2017, McGregor Smith Review 2017 and the Windrush Report 2020. If he genuinely wants black people and other people of colour to be treated fairly in the UK, why doesn't he start with making a commitment ensuring all the recommendations are implemented, or explain why they can't? Otherwise, this latest report will end the same way as the rest, all talk and very little action!

David Lammy in his review concluded that black, Asian and minority ethnic people  face “overt discrimination” in parts of the justice system. He made 35 recommendations, including that prosecutions against some suspects should be deferred or dropped. Little of this was ever implemented. So, to use David Lammy's words, "Implement Them!".

The Angiolini report concluded that “there is evidence” of racial disproportionality in police restraint deaths, its 110 recommendations – some of which are yet to be introduced – included video cameras in police vans, and an end to officer conferring before they submit statements. Implement all the recommendations!

McGregor-Smith review concluded that a combination of managers tending to promote people similar to themselves, and some outright discrimination, tended to hold back workers from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds. McGregor-Smith called for employers to publish data on their workforce by ethnicity and pay band. Some now do this. The review resulted in a total of 26 recommendations. Implement all of them!

Windrush report, while it stopped short of calling the Home Office institutionally racist, it said the repercussions from the so-called hostile environment for immigration were “foreseeable and avoidable”. Whilst it prompted an apology from Priti Patel, the home secretary, there were no notable policy changes, with the hostile environment still in place. This report resulted in 30 recommendations. Implement all of them!
