Every day Brits gather around tea to sing "God Save the Queen." But who even is the queen? I, for one, have never met her and am starting to suspect she doesn't exist. Maddy Clark's hit single "Rope Burns" is the perfect song to represent Britain's current economic climate as the nation struggles to reckon with its oppressive colonial legacy. In the song, Clark elegantly states, "The only proof that had you last night, is the rope burns from holding too tight." England lost its beloved colony America in 1776, and there is currently no evidence that they ever ruled us, except for the rope burns on the Brits’ hands.
