Housing Scheme allowing rent payments showing mortgage affordability

Housing Scheme allowing rent payments showing mortgage affordability
People in the UK are wanting to get onto the property ladder however struggle to raise a big enough deposit due to making high rental payments which makes it nearly impossible to save a big enough deposit. Personally my little family are paying £950 per month rent as well as household bills, childcare and everything else that comes into day to day life. Our only way onto the property ladder would be to sign up to a scheme such as help to buy (which still includes saving for a deposit albeit lower than a standard mortgage) however we would like a full mortgage and are looking for our forever home. By proving to the banks that we are successfully paying our rent on time each month and have been for the last 4 years should show that although we don’t have £20,000-50,000 deposit, we are able to afford a £950 mortgage payment each month.
I believe that the government and UK banks would be able to solve this problem by setting up a housing scheme that allows banks to accept at least 1-2 years of successful rental payments from tenants as proof that that they can afford a mortgage for the same amount or less. Money is money. It doesn’t matter whether it is a mortgage payment or rent payment, it shows a successful payment.
There are many people in the UK in the same situation as my family and by trialling / setting up a scheme like this will prove the affordability of tenants that are able to make mortgage payments and help us get onto the property ladder and find our forever homes.
