I recently had to go to the hospital for a check up where I was unable to drive so I asked my mother for a lift to the said hospital where she actually works in the accident and emergency department, she told me the cheapest places to park in the carpark and explained to me how much she pays to park there.
I had to stop her and get her to reiterate what she just said, I asked her " you have to pay to park your car at your place of work, a place where people save lives and perform real life miracles everyday to preserve, sustain and improve lives " she said "yes all the staff have to pay to park at the hospital".
I was left completely gobsmacked at the realisation of this, how can this be allowed to happen ? We have been in a global pandemic where these heroes have been put in the firing line of it all and have went above and beyond in their fight to help others many with inadequate PPE to start off with and unfortunately many losing their lives to try and save others.
The government has made some hollow gestures towards these heroes like 'clap for carers' and letting them in supermarkets earlier than others (all deserved too) now on TV, radio and even on newspapers the most recent campaign the 'look into their eyes' campaign, a hard hitting advert to get people to stay at home and not make unnecessary journeys,
My question is to government can you look into their eyes and tell them "you are all heroes and the country is grateful for everything they do" while their pockets are being emptied for absolutely disgracefulcar parking fees.
Please make hospital carparking free for all the brave staff who keep this country ticking, it is amongst the bare minimum they all deserve for their hard work.
