Billions of pounds worth of support has been targeted for schools. Where is the support for early years settings and childminders? With the possibility of 25% of settings facing closure within the next 12 months we need a full review of the funding and support offered to this completely forgotten sector. Nurseries and childminders have faced ridiculous hardships for many, many years. The levels of funding and support have not been reviewed since 2012!

This sector has gone above and beyond in this time of crisis. Opening settings to care for the essential workers children at huge financial loss. As a sector we were initially grateful to be able to furlough our staff. However this was quickly followed by the proviso that early years funding (which is paid at the bargain price of around £4.00 per hour) be used to pay some staff. This has once again been yet another example of the sector being unrecognised for the work and care provided.

We need a full review of the early years funding and more substantial and sustainable support to ensure that not only can early years providers make it through the pandemic but are able to thrive in the years to come. We provide care, education and development support for the youngest and most vulnerable members of society. Please secure our future and the future of our children.
