Currently Britain obtains 11% of its oil from Russia. Phasing out the supply of oil from Russia over a year is too little and too slow. Britain should cease buying Russian oil immediately. If that means fuel prices rise more or that fuel has to be rationed, so be it. It's not like we're being bombed, shelled and shot at. Whatever impact this has on us is nothing to the impact that madman Putin's insane action is having on the people of Ukraine. Putin's regime needs to be hit hard and fast. Delay will only prolong the suffering and increase the tragedy inflicted on the Ukranian population. If we, the West and NATO, will not take any direct military action against Putin, the sanctions that we take need to hit much harder and faster than they are presently. It has been estimated, by the Transport & Environment thinktank, that Putin's coffers are bolstered by $285m every day in oil payments by European countries alone. Surely, if these payments were halted immediately, Putin's disgusting, totally unjustified war would grind to a halt in a very short time. The siezing of the assets of all the oligarch mates of Putin who have bought their British citizenships should also be speeded up.
