Unemployment due to Automation

This is basically a form of unemployment but because of automation. It has all the downsides of unemployment and can affect the economy, governments and the unemployed individual. On a larger scale, unemployment can lead to a financial crisis, forcing the government to pay more benefits to unemployed people. This might force them to cut back on other crucial services such as health and security. Even worse, it could force the government into unrepayable debt.

As technological change is the base of this problem, it will be very hard to stop. Technology is always advancing so the more we delay our action, the more jobs will be replaced. My idea is to create a law saying, 'For every £1000 worth of a company, at least one person has to be employed.' This law will force companies to employ humans and this way, the economy will be stable and everyone is happy.

If you think this is still not a serious problem, let me explain some situations if we do not take action. When one is unemployed, one's standard of living decreases and one stresses and strains about one's issues. This may cause anxiety and depression, sometimes damaging the brain permanently. Also, if the society is experiencing a high unemployment rate, they might not value education as much as they think it might be wasted.
