Systemic racism has always been a problem. The unlawful murder of George Floyd and so many others has resulted in global outrage, demonstrable largely in the form of peaceful protests.

Donald Trump’s response to these protests against racism and police brutality have been militaristic, incendiary and serve only to escalate the violence whilst ignoring the real issues.

It is important that the Prime Minister takes clear, public and immediate action against the continued infringement of human rights, racism and police brutality that continues to take place under both his own and Trump's administration.

Regardless of how each of us voted in the last general election, Boris Johnson is the United Kingdom’s political representative on the world’s stage. This is a time to put political affiliations aside and come together over something that runs deeper than party politics.

These past weeks we have repeatedly heard and seen the sentiment expressed that to be silent in the face of injustice is to be complicit.

We believe that our prime minister, political representatives and all world leaders should be held to that same standard.
