Niki Watson started this petition to Boris Johnson (Prime Minister) and

Society has been on lockdown for 2 weeks now to help stop the spread of Coronavirus  and we are all going stir-crazy at the prospect of being 3 months contained in our own homes with our families. Prisoners in prisons all over UK are being locked in cells for 23 hours 45 minutes a day to stop the spread of Corona. This is usually a form of punishment for prisoners who break the rules with in prison system Prisoners in the UK are being on lock up ( the term in prison for being locked in your cell for 23 and a half hours a day.) Granted they have done this to prevent the spread of Coronavirus , which is a sensible idea in such close proximity to one another. but on the other hand the prison guards are searching prisoners with the same gloves and no hand sanitiser in between prisoners therefore spreading the virus from clothing to clothing. Whilst out on 15min  exercise in the prison  yard the prison officers are conducting cell searches and touching door handles surfaces and items of personal property of each prisoner and this practice will no doubt lead to the spreading of the Coronavirus  from cell to cell,  Prisoners then return to their cells and have no hand wash sanitiser of any kind of antibacterial cleaning products Ito assure and protect themselves from the virus  The government guidelines are telling us to wash our hands for 20 seconds either with an antibacterial hand wash or just soap and water. The majority of the prisoners do not have any. The prison reform trust recommend even on lockdown they should still receive 30 minutes out of their cell a day and that should not include a choice of having a shower or going out on exercise. The prisoners should be able to shower on a daily basis especially ones who have skin conditions but this is not happening. All prisoners should be provided  with some form of antibacterial cleaning products so they can disinfect their cells and at least will have peace of mind that there will be no cross contamination going on due to prison officers cell searches. The prisoners are being served meal which are open. ( some of the prisons have been serving sealed meals to prisoners) the meals consist of a pitta bread with a megre spread of Humous in it, a packet of crisps and an orange. The meals are so small the prisoners are losing weight and getting very agitated and feel very anxious  at the way they are being treated .They are losing weight and not receiving the nutrition need required to build there immune system up in order for their bodies to fight Coronavirus  should they get it. Some of the prisons are giving the prisoners £5 of phone credit a week so they can contact their families on a daily basis so we have the peace of mind that our family or friend in prison is still alive and well. This is a good idea but should be expanded upon. Some prisons are letting them get extra money sent in from family and friends so they can keep contact with their loved ones through out this Pandemic .prisoners are allowed a canteen this is how they can order food and buy there self however they are not receiving most of what they have ordered so only have the food that’s been given to them from the prison and being told by prison officers that the prison is running out of food

I want to start a petition where we need 100,000 people to sign the petition for it to go to government and be looked at. They may be prisoners and in Prison for committing crimes but they are still human beings and have human rights the way they are being treated is wrong and unfair

The . Ministry of Justice  need to allow  prisoners to  get extra money from their friends and family so they can buy their own food from the prison canteen if the prison cant provide enough nutritional meals  every day so  they can still eat well and make sure they receive the food they are ordering from the canteen  to be able to keep them from not being  hungry and losing weight  we as humans would not allow animals to be treated this way never mind human beans

There was a phone in show on the BBC where a member of the public phoned in to ask what is being done for people in prison and was overlooked  as they are low priority Public Health Englands guild lines  are not being met whilst not doing their best for prisoners  it was proven in 2019 that  10 out of 35 prisons inspections failed to meet minimum standards of cleanliness and infections control compliance  and this was before the Coronavirus epidemic

Prisoners are being denied there basic human rights regarding health and hygiene this will no doubt lead to poor health and even  the loss of love ones due to the Coronavirus epidemic and  the practice  of prisons and prison staff unwillingness to follow the correct procedures laid out by the government  , I can confirm these unfair practices are being carried out at HMP Swellside prison and despite the constant requests from inmates  to prison officers for there basic human rights to be met  this is causing the prisoners  stress and anxiety depression this can only lead to further unrest within the prison if nothing is done

PLEASE, PLEASE spare a thought for these men and woman who are being treated wrongly

life is hard enough for them without their human rights being taken away from them. They are humans despite what ever they are in prison for they are someones father husband wife  mother brother sister daughter son  While we are sat in our homes on lock down bored with nothing to do take a couple of minutes to sign this petition. I actually believed that this Great country will always stand up for all humans and preserve every human beings rights to have the simple things in life that we all take for granted like food, health care and to be safe but this is just not the case. its time we stand together and unite on this to make sure they are getting these basic human rights for there Wellbeing and safety
