Why this petition matters

Started by Ella Burns
Literature taught to students in UK secondary school is based almost entirely around works by Caucasian writers, with very few exceptions. This narrows the perspective and neglects existence of works by black authors to a young demographic. The lack of representation within the education system for younger members of the black community shows a further miseducation to UK children. By making it complusary to study at least one text by a black author as a set work we can broaden the mindset of children growing up into a more diverse and accepting society.
