The UK is currently in the start of a third Covid wave. Cases are rising exponentially and showing no signs of slowing yet.

For every person who contracts Covid many others have to isolate - be that contacts in a school or household bubble, co-workers, friends or simply someone the NHS app deems them to have been close to. This is causing havoc across the country putting pressure on parents, workers, businesses and, ironically as we've spent the last 16m trying to protect it, the NHS.

Leeds Teaching Hospital trust have already started cancelling elective surgery cases. They cite rising numbers of staff isolating as a factor in this decision.

Sensibly the rules change on the 16th August.

Why the delay? That's more than a month away.

My workplace (a GP surgery in Sheffield) is already crippled due to staff off. We have run out of laptops to give people to work from home. If we lose more reception staff we may have to close our building. This is crazy - we are all double vaccinated & have been for months. We are exhausted after the worst 18m of our working lives & this feels like the final straw.

Please bring forward the new rules to the 19th July to coincide with the next step in opening up the country before it grinds to a complete halt.
