INSTATE DRIVING RETESTS FOR DRIVERS OVER THE AGE OF 65
Recently, I have started driving and have come to realise that, particularly in my town, older drivers are making it dangerous for myself and others, including themselves and pedestrians. This doesn’t just affect me and younger drivers, but everyone who uses the roads. After reading scholar’s articles and various websites regarding the abilities of those over the age of 60, I have decided to start this petition in order to bring this problem to light. A recent example of an accident, which was potentially caused by slower reactions due to age, caused injuries to pedestrians who were just walking down town. The accident occurred when an elderly couple swerved onto the pavement and hit people and a bollard, causing significant damage. I truly believe that implementing a law which states that drivers over the age of 60 have to retake their driving tests, or at least be assessed thoroughly on their driving, will be beneficial and help prevent many accidents by keeping those unable to drive to a safe standard off the roads.
