Jax NT started this petition to Boris Johnson (Prime Minister) and

IS MY MOTHER IN A CARE HOME OR PRISON?

Give us proper access to our loved ones who are currently de facto locked up bythe care system.

6 months on and relatives are still unable to visit on a daily/weekly, basis and as each month goes by, we are losing them. Have they no rights and no voice and have we no rights or voice?

Care staff, now have procedures in place to keep themselves and our relatives safe, whilst enabling them to come and go from their homes and families to work with our relatives, in a safe way; so this procedure must now be extended to caring relatives.

The government took a decision early on in this world pandemic to empty the hospitals and send the elderly back into the care system, which was not properly thought through at the time, with fatal consequences. It was definitely not the best or safest course of action and has caused an enormous amount of sadness. Very hard lessons have been learnt.

However, lessons have been learnt; we know it is important to take temperatures, check oxygen levels, wear PPE/masks and wash our hands. There is also testing and track and trace now.  At any sign of illness, we of course, stay at home and isolate.   These procedures are clear and easy to follow.

We need an urgent review by the Government to make it mandatory, that relatives gain regular access to their loved ones, in a safe and measured way.  Some homes are not doing enough or even ignoring the family needs and causing more upset and sadness.  Who is monitoring this situation?

Please sign this petition asking the Government to make it mandatory for caring relatives to gain access to their loved ones.  Mentally this is important for all concerned including the care homes.
