85 years since the jarrow March and Nowts Changes. Our people will not starve !
It’s 85 years since 200 folk walked 291 mile from Jarrow to London, armed with a 12,000 signed petition. Led by MP Ellen Wilkinson with the words “ tell the government, our people will not starve. Nowts Changed.
We have more homeless, more food banks, higher unemployment, higher child poverty… and it’s getting worse. We need to act NOW. On the 31st October North East Homeless will present another Petition to our Government in London with more than 12,000 signatures on, why the 31st October you ask? Because that’s the same day that the Jarrow March presented theirs.
85 years later and nothings changes. More of our Bairns are going to bed hungry, we have more food banks than ever, and unless we shake the system nothing will ever change.
We have to make a stand, we have to challenge this government and tell them that we will suffer no more.
On route to London we will stop off at many food banks to collect signatures from people who have had enough and want change. In 2021 we shouldn’t have folk relying on food banks. When politicians in this Government are being paid thousands of pounds, to fix poverty whilst drinking out of gold guided goblets, then the systems broke.
We hope you can add you signature to help our fight in ending poverty in our North East.
