I am deeply upset, confused and saddened that in the midst of the current health crisis (COVID-19) the UK government is choosing to prioritise funding for our defense budget rather than the NHS!
This, to the tune of £16.5 BILLION!  And yet we are being told, on a daily basis to “Protect The NHS” It seems hugely contradictory to know that our health and care services are under immense strain, and yet the largest amount of money since the “Cold War” is being agreed for the Ministry of Defense!

Quote Boris Johnson, on a visit to the MoD as reported by Andrew Chuter for Defense News on 19th November 2020 : “For decades UK governments have pared and trimmed our defense budget. If we go on like this, we risk waking up to discover our armed forces have fallen below the minimum threshold.”
Replace “defense budget” and “armed forces” with the NHS and this makes more sense.

As a counsellor and mentor, I have great concerns about the impact of the current pandemic and lockdown measures on people’s mental well-being. And I believe that if the government put this £16.5 billion into NHS, social care and mental health services that “Protect the NHS” might actually mean something.

By signing this petition, we can tell Boris Johnson “Protect the NHS” by fully funding it!
