We all owe a massive debt to those NHS staff that have gone in to work each and every day for the last 12 months to tend to patients against a background of fear, uncertainty and personal risk. Initially poorly prepared and poorly protected they have never faltered. Their efforts, dedication and professionalism should be rewarded and respected.

Everyone in the UK now personally knows someone or knows of someone that has been cared for by Sir Tom Moores “Heroes”. The time has come to follow his inspirational words of hope and kindness and to show the NHS just how much we appreciate what they have done - and will no doubt continue to do whilst exhausted 

I propose that a small, fully funded gesture from Westminister and all of us is needed. A genuine campaign medal should be awarded to thank them and remember their efforts and should be given by Queen Elizabeth and that a £1,000 bonus should be paid to each and every NHS staff member by HMG.

No excuses Boris. The British people have backed you. Now it’s time to say thank you.
