Why this petition matters

Started by Rochelle Quimpan

"It's not your problem if someone has a problem with your body; it's their problem."

Body shaming is the act of disparaging a person's physical appearance. It could be about your own or someone else's body. It could be due to a person's height, weight, skin color, clothing, or sadly, even a disability. It occurs both online and offline; it is too toxic and can have a negative impact on a person's mental health. Body shaming is a type of bullying in which someone is judged based on their appearance or level of attractiveness. It is a humiliating act directed at another person's "imperfections." Depression, anxiety, and stress are all issues that will be impacted as a result of this body shaming or bad behavior. You should all be aware of the impact it has on other people who have been bullied in this way, or else put yourself in their shoes to understand how difficult it is to deal with negative comments about their natural appearances. Don't be the one who shatters someone's confidence; instead, be the one who helps them build it.

Stop Body Shaming!

You've heard of the ten-second rule.

Don't make a comment about someone's appearance if they can't fix it in ten seconds. Don't bring up someone's insecurities since that person is already aware of them and is probably self-conscious about them. You're only making that person feel bad about themselves. It is not about complimenting everyone in order to contribute something positive to people's lives. It is about learning how to act in any situation and how to treat others the way you want to be treated. Don't make them feel bad about themselves; instead, help them in loving themselves. The issue isn't with their bodies; it's with your mindset.

This is for those who have perpetrated body shaming, not those who have been subjected to it. Be sensitive and think before you speak. Your voice is the one who tells other people how to look at themselves.

"Don't destroy other people's confidence just because you don't have yours."
