Help mitigate the negative effects of littering on Mississauga's economy & its environment

0 have signed. Let’s get to 200!

Littering is an often under-looked and an ignored issue. Far too many taxpayer dollars are being spent towards roadside and park cleaning services. The money that is being spent into picking up litter could be spent into other, more important issues, such as improving the EMS, funding other recreational community activities, etc. which would benefit the citizens a lot more in the long run. There are plenty of lost opportunities in the potential economic growth of Mississauga as a whole as the real estate agencies are less likely to construct any buildings in an area where littering has affected the environment drastically as well as the probable decrease of tourism. On a larger scale, global climate change is only being accelerated by land litter. No matter which way you look at it, litter harms everyone.

We want to put an end to this. In order to be able to achieve our goals of a cleaner Mississauga, we need your help. Signing this petition will help us communicate the urgency of this cause to Bonnie Crombie, the Mayor of Mississauga, with a lot more impact and effect. We will make a request for her to:

  • Focus efforts on controlling littering in neighborhood communities, as that is where most litter buildup occurs.
  • Bring publicity and awareness to the issue through her social media.
  • Launch an event where citizens and workers are to go out and plant trees to help combat air pollution, replace the trees that have died from diseases/smothering caused by litter, and create more habitat for wildlife.
