“A "Shenendehowa Park" for ALL the District

Just an update on our project to keep the 34 acres in the public domain.  Since there seems to be some concern about Clifton Park as the resident municipality for this property, we thought it was time to introduce a new name for any potential park since it is a retreat for everyone.  Hope you like the new title!!

To All Our Supporters:  With the School Board resolution on Dec 6th to sell the 34 acres to a developer, we are taking the next step!!  Please join us in signing a new paper petition which is being circulated asking for a public referendum vote on this decision.  You can go to our website for more information on where to sign: www.cpopenspace.org

Thank you for all your support.  Help us carry-on with this effort to keep this property in the public domain!!

Currently, the Shenendehowa Central School District owns 34 acres of rare open space in the middle of the Clifton Park’s Town Center Zoning District. This property runs behind the YMCA and down to the Library property — behind the Hannaford Plaza by the Shatekon School. The School Board has decided to sell this property  and the Town of Clifton Park has expressed interest in buying this property and keeping it in the public domain.

It is imperative that the School Board and the Town of Clifton Park act now to protect these 34 acres and preserve this pristine landscape at the demographic, geographic, economic, and civic center of Southern Saratoga County for the benefit and enjoyment of all the residents of the Town.

A public park on this site can serve as a needed counterbalance to our bustling commercial district and can provide many benefits for our Town including:

  • - Providing a destination where the entire community could play in all four seasons, enjoy nature, attend events or just visit and leave refreshed.
  • - Enhance the pedestrian environment in and around the park thereby stimulating economic activity in the Town Center.
  • - Augment existing public facilities such as the School campus, Public Safety complex, Library, the Commons and Collins Park further west.
  • - Establish an attractive Commercial, Civic and Public use “anchor” for Southern Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce promotional and tourism activities.

The idea of a park in the Town Center is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The Time To Act Is NOW!!

Please help by signing the attached petition.

"Thirty-four acres of rare open space in the Clifton Park Town Center Zoning District are currently for sale by the Shenendehowa Central School District.  We, the undersigned, call on the Shenendehowa School Board and the Town of Clifton Park to work together to transfer ownership of this property to the Town for use as parkland for the benefit of all current and  future residents."
